BE YE HOLY DOES NOT MEAN NO BOUNDRIES
As you read and meditate on the following paragraphs, it is important to understand that holiness is not about blindly following authority. It is not submission simply because someone holds a leadership position. Rather, holiness means reflecting God’s character—being set apart, discerning, and obedient to God above all else.
When Christ came to the earth, He came as a man and lived life fully, yet with clear boundaries. Jesus Himself did not obey human authority without discernment. Even as a child, He remained in the temple rather than returning with the caravan, because He was focused on doing the will of His Father—not acting out of rebellion, but out of divine purpose.
In the same way, women are often misled into believing that submission—particularly in marriage—means doing everything their spouse says, especially when married to a strong leader. This misunderstanding can extend into the workplace, where a lack of healthy boundaries can be damaging. Submission without discernment is not holiness.
According to 1 Peter 1:15–16, the call to “be holy” means that believers are to reflect God’s character in every area of life. Because God Himself is holy—morally pure, set apart from sin, and completely righteous—those who belong to Him are called to live differently from the surrounding world. Holiness is not limited to outward behavior or religious rituals, but includes thoughts, attitudes, speech, and daily conduct. It flows from a relationship with God and is expressed through obedience, integrity, and devotion.
True holiness, therefore, is not passive submission to all authority, but a life anchored in obedience to God, guided by wisdom, boundaries, and a commitment to honor Him in every choice.
This is something I am learning even later in life. May we live a Holy life before the Lord.
